History of the site
The Ringer; a sports, pop culture, and technology based website was announced by Bill Simmons, its founder, on February 17th, 2016, and went live on June 1st, 2016. Bill Simmons was first hired by ESPN in 2001 where he was termed "The Boston Sports Guy" due to his particular interest in the Red Sox and the Celtics. The site took off in popularity almost immediately due to the creator, Bill Simmons, previously being a well known writer for ESPN. Aside from already being a well known writer from ESPN, Simmons promoted his new website on the ESPN website and during live broadcasts of ESPN on many different occasions, which made the site gain in popularity from the very beginning.
