Bill Simmons
Bill Simmons is the CEO of The Ringer, and he is also one of the strongest writers that The Ringer has. Simmons is a very big fan of Boston athletics, so whenever he gets the opportunity to discuss anything Boston, he does. Simmons has a very knowledgeable writing style. Although he does not use the most sophisticated syntax, and he does not have the strongest diction, his writing style is very fun to read, and makes his articles more entertaining.
Simmons writes about a variety of topics. He is the most comfortable while writing about Boston sports, since those are the things he is most passionate about, and furthermore, the most knowledgeable about. Aside from Boston sports, Simmons writes about many other topics, ranging from the entertainment industry, to even writing about technology for an article or two.
Simmons has a very wide audience. He makes his writing style appeal to a very broad type of person, which in response, means that more people are reading his articles. Simmons appeals to Boston sports fan (whether is be the Celtics or the Red Sox), middle aged males who read The Ringer, and finally, anybody who wants an entertaining article to read, like younger people who have a short attention spans.
The purpose of the articles Simmons writes is to inform his audience about the topic he is writing about. After reading some of Simmons articles, Simmons did not have a very strong argument Even though he was not very persuasive, he was very friendly tone and makes his arguments MUCH more believable because of it.
The subjects that Simmons prefers to write about is sports. Looking down his articles he wrote, the majority of them are sports. Another thing that he enjoys to do is podcasts, where he writes an article, then talks to the person he wrote about in the article through a podcast. Every now and then he includes a piece about entertainment or popular culture, but those are not as common as the sports.
Simmons has a very conversation tone throughout all of his passages. In his article "Isiah and Lebron", in lines 14-15, Simmons says "The final score? Boston 66, Detroit 64. I repeat: Boston 66,Detroit 64.". The repetition of the phrase clarifies what he said, but also shows how passionate he is about what he writes about, which makes the article more fun to read.
